The Road To Yuma

After 3 nights in town we decided to fire up the gunship and head out again.
To the northern we rolled looking for a tidal swamp (humedal) a few miles out of town.
It took a bit of looking and a few miles on sandy/muddy road on the gunship, but we found the place.
Nice little estuary with some decent wildlife even at mid morning.
Ospreys fishing, cormorants, Ibis, Herons, 

Rolling up the coast toward Yuma in Sonora is an amazing trip.
It all desert, but you’re always in sight of mountains, and often the sea
The dune fields of Pinacate stretch from far away to right there on the highway.
Deserted beaches miles long with overlooking cliffs.
The delta of the ancestral Colorado River, its a pretty cool place

Just before the town of Golfo De Santa Clara you pass through canyon land.
Carved over the millennia, the gorges seem to be everywhere.
In town the local gendarme were quick to suggest a place to eat.
Turned out the proprietor was a net fisherman getting ready for the corvina season.
Him and I had a good chat about fishing and what not, while Miss Sciency had a beer and scarfed down a plate of shrimp.
Turns out they also shrimp from a panga. I’ve never seen that.
Real nice guy. He even extended  an invitation for me to go fishing with him next time I’m in town. 
I’m guessing I’ll be hauling back nets, not running the boat on that trip
Maybe we’ll go back and explore those canyons also.

Up the highway to the border crossing at San Luis Rio Colorado.
From there north to Yuma through an immense agricultural area.
Irrigated everything from Spinanch, Cauliflower, lettuce, hay.
No wonder the Colorado River is all but dry at the source.
Hope they get a little smarter about how they use it in the future.

A short hop around Yuma, we decided to leave it for another day.
Pointed the gunship east and made it back to our place on Pantano Wash in Tucson by 9pm.
A very fun day.

11-Feb-2020 Sonora Mexico Notwithstanding all the UNESCO hoopla, this place is something else. Lava floes and Murr Craters butt up agains the largest dune field in North America. Miss Sciency was in heaven. Most of the crater access is closed do to a spat between Mexico Feds and the local Ejido. The Ejido system was created as land reform a hundred years ago. The attempt was to give peasants access to land they did not have under the Spanish Hacienda system. Reviews are mixed. Good things have happened. Not everything is wonderful Nevertheless we found access to lava floes and sand dunes. So we spent the better part of the day wandering around. The place is spectacular. It’s also easily recognizable from space should any of you get the chance to orbit. Here we go

Sonora Y Puerto Penasco

10-Feb-2020’ Puerto Penasco Sonora Mexico We decided the Gunship needed to roll, I needed to practice my Spanish, and Miss Sciency needed to stare at some rocks. So we headed on down to the Sea of Cortez in Sonora to take a look around. Ensconced ourselves in a fine fine superfine hotel right on the beach where we could aprovechar el ambiente. That’s what we’ve been doing for the last couple of days. Puerto Penasco, Sonora No photoshop involved Fried Corvina with Asparagus. Pretty good Pufferfish. Locally called Butete The fishery is shrimp. Lots and lots of shrimp

Feb 5,2020 Tucson and Environs Mostly digging the Southwest ambiente of Tucson. Bought a bike at a pawn shop and started riding it around the bike path Loop. 100 miles of bike path around Tucson... Lots of fun. Eating a lot of tacos and what not Plenty of food trucks on “La Strip” (my name for 22 Street area Southeast of City center). However the absolute Mecca for great Mexican food turned out to be the Tono O’odham Native American Swap meet. It was like a junk store bazaar with plenty of great eats. We’ve hit a trail here and there. Some local parks in the city. Even made a return to Madera Canyon for a nice hike. All in all Tucson is quite nice. Here’s some photos. Went to Nogales to get my teeth done. Even had a few tacos Cienega Creek Trail South of Tucson Taco De Cabeza Miss Sciency laying into a Costilla de res at the Swap meet Local Color Definitely be on the lookout for this bus on  22nd street Acorn Woodpecker laying hell on a phone pole Fresh squeezed...
